Classic TV Series Gladiators is set to return to screens after more than a decade away and more than 20 years since it ended on ITV.

The show, which originally aired on ITV between 1992 and 2000 before a brief revival on Sky in the late 2000s, is due to move to the BBC for a further 11-episode run in 2023.

The format sees a number of guest competitors go head-to-head with gladiators, in a test of speed and strength.

The revival is set to include “all-new games alongside classic challenges, culminating at the end of each episode with fan-favorite The Eliminator.”

A few years ago, some stars of Gladiators spoke about the possibility of a revival, with Panther (Helen O’Reilly) recounting Hello Brittany that “there is a demand for it”.

“But at 58, I don’t know if I’ve passed it,” added the star.

Speaking about the show’s enduring popularity, Jet (Diane Youdale) also said: “I think it was one of the first reality TV shows, where the whole family could watch, and you got behind the plot of someone’s bottom [and rooted for] our suitors.”

Gladiators will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer in 2023.
