Strictly Dan Walker star replaced as NFL Show host

Ancient Come dance strictly star Dan Walker has been replaced as host of The NFL Show after coverage of American sport switched from the BBC to rival broadcaster ITV.

Walker will be replaced by Sky Sports presenter Laura Woods, who runs the US sports show alongside current hosts Osi Umenyiora and her former colleague. Strictly star Jason Bell, who is leaving the BBC.

Reacting to the news, Walker tweeted: “You may have seen the news about the NFL show moving to ITV. It was still one of my favorite shows to do.”

The presenter also had nothing but praise for his former co-stars, saying they will continue to be great on the show.

“I loved [every] second spent with [Umenyiora and Bell] in and out of the studio,” he wrote. “We will remain good friends and are proud of the show’s award-winning, record-breaking ratings and stacks of lovely messages we receive each week from loyal NFL fans everywhere. Great Britain.”

He ended his statement by wishing Woods luck in the role, adding, “It’s only going to get better with her at the helm.”

Woods was previously at Sky Sports for over a decade, as well as working as a radio host on TalkSport and presenting ITV’s coverage of women’s football since 2021.

The BBC had been the benchmark for American football in the UK for seven years, before ITV negotiated a three-year deal to carry the show on the network.

ITV’s NFL coverage will begin on September 9, which marks the first day of the 2022/2023 season.
