Wesley Fofana: Leicester defender prepares for medical ahead of £70m move to Chelsea | Transfer Center News

Wesley Fofana is due to undergo his medical at Chelsea on Monday ahead of a £70million move from Leicester.

Fofana is said to have flown to the United States for testing.

According Athleticism, it’s for new owner Toddy Boehly’s “peace of mind” following Fofana’s serious injury last season. He missed most of the campaign with a broken fibula.

Chelsea and Leicester reached a verbal agreement on Friday after a long saga over his valuation. Leicester had wanted more than the £80million they got from Manchester United for Harry Maguire.

This had frustrated the player and he had been left out of the Foxes’ last two games against Chelsea and Southampton.

A look back at Fofana’s best Premier League bits for Leicester City

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers said last week: “He won’t be available for the weekend. [against Chelsea] and trained with the U23 team.

“I’m focused on the players we have and the team. I can’t lose energy. If anything needs to be done, it will be with the clubs. In the meantime, we just have to work with what we have .”

Rodgers added: “I hope [there will be some transfer business done between now and the end of the window]. It would be really good for the team to be able to do that, improving the team is always important. But until that changes, we will work with what we have.”

Fofana is now set to sign a six-year contract as a Chelsea player and fulfill his dream of emulating Didier Drogba by playing for the club. Drogba is considered a legend in Marseille, Fofana’s hometown.

Before a verbal agreement was reached, a third bid from Chelsea for Fofana, worth a total of £70million, was immediately rejected.

The bid was estimated at £60m with a further £10m possible – but the additional payments were described for Sky Sports News as “ambitious” targets.

Chelsea previously rejected two offers over £60m.

Leverkusen agree loan deal for Hudson-Odoi

Bayer Leverkusen have agreed a season-long loan deal with Chelsea for winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Hudson-Odoi is expected to travel to Germany on Monday for a medical.

The move was in danger of falling apart 24 hours ago as Leverkusen wanted an option slotted into the deal, but Chelsea only wanted a direct loan. This will be the first time the striker has been loaned out by the club.

Talks continued into the night with Hudson-Odoi’s representative – his brother Bradley – able to convince Leverkusen to agree to the deal on the terms Chelsea wanted.
